Become A Reseller

More than $154 billion worth of human hair was imported to the U.S. in 2007, according to a January, 2008, Fox News report. Though some may have been diverted to other uses, crafting weaves and lace wigs from that hair is big business, with an abundance of weave and lace wig wholesalers. Many wholesalers have a presence on the Internet and are actively soliciting distributors and resellers. With salon or beauty business owners as the most obvious distributor prospects, those with a broad network of beauty-minded women and men might also profit.

Step 1

Research hair weave and lace wig wholesalers. Many are eagerly seeking distributors to sell their imported hair stock. Some even allow you to get started free of charge--look into the terms and conditions of doing business with them. For example, some wholesalers may prefer that you stock their items exclusively, while others may be more flexible.

Step 2

Look for information on wholesaler reputability. If you can find any existing distributors, contact them to see how reliable the wholesaler is in terms of providing stock timely. Existing distributors may perceive you as potential competition, so tread lightly. Check with the attorney general's office of the state or city where the distributor is located. If complaints have been filed against the company, steer clear. Get as much information as you can before going into business with a wholesaler.

Register as a distributor. This typically involves paying a fee and obtaining startup marketing and sales-support materials.

Step 4

Develop a website. Even if you also want to sell from an existing shop or salon, developing a wig-selling website allows you to reach customers worldwide. You never know when someone in Australia may be searching for lace wig or weave in exactly the styles you offer. Developing a social networking presence is also advisable.

Step 5

Order wigs from the wholesaler. Order styles that are currently in style. If you are not sure of what is in fashion, check celebrity and beauty print and online publications. Some companies allow you to order as few as one wig per month to maintain distributor status. Others require that you order a certain weight volume of hair per order, such as two kilos.

Step 6

Promote your new business. If you own or work in a salon, let all customers know about the hair you are selling. Place ads on Internet billboard and community sites. Optimize search engine marketing. Solicit partnerships with other beauty salons, spas and suppliers. You may not see instant results, but with consistent effort, you will be able to move toward success.
